Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Roberts is fourth in the Roberts generation to reside in Atlanta from her farmer great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts. She inherited her father's interest in theatre from an early age. In 1952, while an undergraduate at Emory University, he performed in a variety of productions in Atlanta. In 1953, he enlisted in the Air Force. While stationed in Biloxi in Mississippi acted in a show with Betty Lou Bredemus. Eric Anthony was their first born. They got married in 1957. Walter was studying at Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana. In the year 1957, they quit the Air Force and Walter began his studies at Tulane University. Walter became a member of Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio after the family relocated from Atlanta to Decatur in Georgia in the year 1960. Walter and Betty Lou began producing a television show for children in the city of Decatur, Georgia titled Bum Bum and His Buddies. The production was funded by the couple by themselves. The Actors and Writers Workshop was created in the year 1964 and ran for six years. They welcomed in 1965 two more children into their lives: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
