She then attended Northwestern University, where she was a theatre student and completed her degree in 1989. Gunn went on to study in the United Kingdom in the British American Drama Academy during autumn 1988. Pamela Adlon and Gunn shared a Los Angeles house in the Laurel Canyon area after moving there. Gunn was best known for her character Skyler in the AMC's Breaking drama. For her outstanding performance in 2013, and 2014 she was nominated in the category of Primetime Emmy Award Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. In August 2013 she wrote an op-ed piece for The New York Times examining the negative comments made by people about her role as a character.
